Moving from Ship On-premises to Ship Cloud is not a one-to-one transition. There are important differences in configuration options, available features, and how shipments are managed.
Tip: When migrating, take the opportunity to evaluate and simplify your current integration. For example:
- Instead of file import with carrier presets, consider using the POST/Submit Shipments method.
- Instead of complex import logic (which is not available as self-service in Cloud), consider handling this through Shipping Rules.
Feature comparison: On-premises vs. Cloud
| Feature area | On-premises | Cloud |
|---|---|---|
| Carrier & service configuration | Full access to activate and delete carriers, services, and addons. Configure file import lookup, max values for goods lines/packages/DG lines, WS timeouts. |
Limited number of carriers available for self-service activation (cannot delete). Can show/hide services and addons, set default and display order. Can modify sender/return addresses, COD accounts, time zones, document options, default currency and country. Can activate consolidation, goods types, DG Office configuration, and price calculation. Can upload a contact list. Note: there is an ongoing initiative to make Carrier/service configurations more self service. |
| Address control & validation | Extended address control for Norway (NO), Sweden (SE), and Denmark (DK). For NO, includes street vs. postcode validation. | No address or postcode validation on POST/Submit Shipment, except where defined in carrier XML (e.g. postcodes where home delivery is possible). |
| Production view (manual shipments) | Configurable tab/enter stop order. Fields can be set as mandatory or read-only. Numeric fields support custom units and number of decimals. | No tab/enter stop or configurable units and decimals per field. Label text for custom fields (shipment and references) can be changed. |
| Mass print | Advanced functionality: import from file/Excel, validate, create return shipments, price calculation, and more. | Not fully implemented. Only available via file import to inbox, where multiple shipments can be selected and printed. |
| Outbox & grids |
|
None of the above options are available. |
| Search & historical shipments | Shipments stored in local database until manually deleted. Built-in search functionality. | Historical shipment search is handled via Portal/Track. |
| Logs | Status log, address control changes, shipment consolidation log, change log, and shipping rules log — all accessible to customers. | Logs are not available to customers. |
| Languages | English only. | Multiple languages available, configured in user management. |
